Teaching Privacy. This website provides information about the various threats to online privacy and how Internet users can make better decisions about their privacy. It also provides educators with lesson plans and materials that they can use to bring privacy education to their classrooms.

The Evolving Landscape of Data Privacy in Higher Education. Data privacy is still in a state of growth and evolution in higher education, and this study highlights ways higher education, technology, and privacy leaders can develop and advance their own privacy programs and policies. EDUCAUSE, November 2020.

The Feeling of Being Watched. In April 2022, Dissonance, ITS and the Wallace House hosted a virtual screening of the Feeling of Being Watched, followed by a conversation with the film director, Assia Boundaoui. The conversation was facilitated by Wallace House Director Lynette Clemetson, and joined by Roya Ensafi and Tanisha Afnan. The Right to Privacy — an article published in the 1890 Harvard Law Review. Written primarily by Justice Louis Brandeis (but credited to both Brandeis and Samuel Warren), it is one of the most influential essays in American legal history and is considered the first publication in the U.S. to argue for a right to privacy.

The Social Dilemma. This documentary-drama hybrid reveals how social media is reprogramming civilization with tech experts sounding the alarm on their own creations.

In July 2022, The Chronicle of Higher Education hosted a virtual forum on The Student-Data Challenge: Sharing and Security. The 75-minute session focused on the importance of privacy protections in an increasingly tech-driven world. Panelists, including University of Michigan Vice President for Information Technology & Chief Information Officer, Ravi Pendse, explored what these protections look like in practice, along with students’ perceptions of their data privacy and ways that colleges can be more transparent in how they use, store and protect data.

Three Student Privacy Conversation Starters. Higher education’s increasingly complex technology and data landscape has brought student privacy issues to the front pages of national publications. Yet, engaging students in conversations about privacy remains elusive. In this session, we will discuss three ways the University of Michigan has sought to raise students’ privacy awareness and empowerment. Hear an administrator's and a student’s perspective on how these three efforts started and evolved.
